Why we exist

Mental skills can be trained like any other skill, but most athletes and coaches are never shown how. Sport is one of the best places to build them: real challenges, real stakes and people to learn alongside.

We built Profiled to make that practical: a clear framework of 20 skills, simple tools you can run in a normal session, and plain language everyone can share. The skills carry into study, work and life.

Why "Profiled"

Athletes are profiled all the time, through selection, results, behaviour and how they're seen, often before they have the tools to understand or influence it. We want to shift that. Profiled helps athletes and coaches move from being defined by their environment to shaping their own performance, identity and impact.

Build your own profile.

Our logo is a simplified version of the profile chart on the Framework page, which has one wedge for each of the 20 skills.

Skills, not labels

Confidence, resilience and focus aren't traits you either have or don't. They are skills, and skills can be built. That includes handling stress, which is a response, not a verdict: how it's read and used shapes performance. We draw on psychology and science and turn them into a practical approach for modern sport.

Founder and coach

Mel Aiken

Mel is the founder and lead mental skills coach at Profiled. She has 15 years of coaching in development and performance hockey and 10 years in strategy and programme design and evaluation. That mix is why Profiled is practical: it comes from understanding the coaching environment and knowing how to develop frameworks that actually deliver.

I want people to feel confident to learn and develop their mental skills by reducing the complexity and providing tools and language everybody can understand.

Stories from the field

Real stories from the people we've worked with, in their words.

"Mel didn't tell me what to do; she helped me build my own decision-making process. For the first time, I made a big call that prioritised my growth, and it completely changed how I coach and how I see myself."

Head coach

Coach

Reframing decisions for long-term growth

A coach came to us for support with the pressure and complexity of high-performance decision making. Across the season we were a steady, supportive presence, helping them work through challenging moments with more clarity. Instead of offering quick answers, we listened without judgement and helped the coach build their own decision-making process, one that fitted their values and long-term goals. Together they worked through a major decision that, for the first time, put the coach's own growth first instead of always putting others first. That shift led to a more balanced, focused and confident approach to coaching, on the field and off it.

Backing yourself

"I had lost my spark for hockey after last season, but I can safely say that my love for the sport has come back and you were such a big part of that."

Youth athlete

"I'm so thankful that our girls got to finish high school with such a positive, inspirational coach who really invested the time to understand the team and how to make them thrive."

Team

Rekindling the love of the game

A school hockey team had lost confidence after inconsistent environments and mismatched coaching styles. The work started with getting to know the team and each athlete, so that everyone felt seen as an athlete and as a person. Training became something they looked forward to, and athletes who had nearly lost their spark for hockey found their confidence and enjoyment again. In a tough final loss, the team stayed composed and kept going. For many of the Year 13s it was the finish to their school hockey they had hoped for, and it set them up to keep playing beyond school.
